Dear friends,

I am truly overwhelmed and humbled at the support that I have received as I sought the Republican Party’s nomination for Maine’s 1st Congressional District. This has truly been one of the most exciting and rewarding experiences of my life. I am proud of the race we ran, as it was a race about ideas and solutions and not about attacks and political grandstanding.

This was also a very close and tough primary race, and in the end we came up ever so slightly short – but this is not a loss in any way because the values and message that we have been spreading are something that Senator Jon Courtney and I both agree on: limited government, lower taxes, and a government which is responsible and accountable to the people.

Therefore, I am proud to announce that from this point on I am giving my full and unconditional support to Sen. Courtney, who has a proven record of accomplishment in Augusta, that he will be able to take to Washington. The time of extreme partisanship at the hands of the incumbent will end when Sen. Courtney is our congressman, and I look forward to working with him, and all of our excellent Republican candidates, throughout the coming months.

Finally, I also want to take a moment to congratulate Secretary of State Charlie Summers, who will undoubtedly make an excellent nominee and an even better senator.
